Top 5 Tips For Your Best Summer Skin
Seasonal Beauty: Our Top Five Tips for Your Best Summer Skin Ever
If you love summer as much as we do, you might already be packing up your beach bag and picking out your warmer weather wardrobe. However, before you head out on any big adventures, it’s also a good time to refresh your beauty routine for a new season.
Whether your plans include trips to the coast, late night summertime soirees, or epic weekend getaways, we’ve got a few tips to help you keep your skin looking and feeling its best. Here is what we recommend:
#1: Step Up Your Sun Protection
To prevent burns, sun spots, premature aging, and skin cancer, all skin types need sun protection. Although applying sunscreen should be a year-round practice, it is especially important during the summertime, when daylight hours are longer and we tend to spend more time outdoors. To ensure that your skin is properly protected, you will want to apply a sunscreen with at least 30 SPF as the last step in your A.M. routine, and re-apply about every two hours throughout the day.
#2: Support Your Glow From The Inside Out
As radiance-boosting foods go, summer produce is some of the best for your skin! Fruits like citrus, strawberries, blueberries, and cherries are full vitamins and antioxidants that combat free radical activity. It’s also a great time to load up on cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, pineapples, and melons, which are known to have a high water content and can help to keep you hydrated.
Tip #3: Think Light Layers For Skincare
While you don’t need to overhaul your entire routine when the seasons change, summer is the ideal time to swap out heavy creams and cleansers for more lightweight formulas. For example, you may find it helpful to try a gel moisturizer in place of an oil-based product. Or if you prefer fewer layers altogether, you could opt for an SPF with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, which will help the skin hold on to hydration just like a moisturizer.
Tip #4: Energize Your Skin For Summer With Microcurrent
During the hotter months, experts recommend avoiding aggressive treatments like chemical peels or other intense exfoliation. However, some good news is that microcurrent is a modality that’s appropriate for all seasons. In fact, because microcurrent accelerates the skin’s healing process and encourages the production of new collagen, it can act as a perfect antidote to the cellular damage caused by excess UV exposure.
Tip #5: Keep A Few of Your Favorite Products in The Refrigerator
For a summer treat that’s super refreshing and amazing for your skin, a trick we love is to let products chill out before you apply. Just a few hours in the fridge is all you need to turn your toner into a calming and cooling mist, or transform any ordinary sheet mask into a soothing treatment after a long day in the sun. This also helps reduce heat in the skin, relieving redness, irritation, and inflammation.
